Dr. Christian Piovano

Dr. Christian Piovano supports the Produktkanzlei as Of Counsel in addition to his work as an employee of the legal department at ZF Friedrichshafen AG. With legal counselling experience in the field of product safety and product liability law as well as knowledge of internal company processes and procedures, he complements our team especially in the areas of smart product regulation, product-related cyber security law, and accreditation and certification law.

Products and processes must also fulfil a large number of requirements regardless of IT-specific specifications. Conformity assessment procedures are an essential part of ensuring compliance with technical and legal requirements. In addition to manufacturers' own testing and assessment procedures, the involvement of accredited certification bodies is also of particular importance. Dr. Christian Piovano has relevant experience in court and out-of-court proceedings between the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) on the one hand and certification bodies and economic operators on the other. He advises comprehensively on questions of accreditation and certification law.

In addition to his professional involvement in the identification, delimitation and classification of product law issues in connection with smart or digital products, Dr. Piovano also contributes his networking in industry associations and working groups. These include, in particular, the ‘Product Liability’ working group of the Industry 4.0 platform and the ‘Consumer Law’ working group of the VDA.

  • Legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Düsseldorf, including stages at aninternational commercial law firm in Munich in the field of product law
  • Doctorate in law with a product safety law topic at the Professorship for private law and intellectual property law (Prof. Dr. Gesmann-Nuissl) at TU Chemnitz
  • since 2018, regular publications and specialist lectures on product law topics
  • since 2019 lawyer in an international commercial law firm in Munich with specialty in product safety and product liability
  • since 2021 in-house lawyer at the international automotive supplier ZF Friedrichshafen AG
